CAFÉ SOCIETY (Now Playing)
In Woody Allen’s latest crowdpleaser, young Bobby Doorman (Jesse Eisenberg) leaves New York for the glitz and glamour of 1930s Hollywood. After landing a job with his powerful agent-to-the-stars uncle (Steve Carell), Bobby falls for Vonnie (Kristen Stewart), a charming woman who happens to be his employer’s mistress. Settling for friendship but ultimately heartbroken, Bobby returns to the Bronx and begins working in a nightclub. Everything falls into place when he finds romance with a beautiful socialite (Blake Lively), until Vonnie walks back into his life and captures his heart once again.
“Notable for a superb Kristen Stewart performance, this entertaining lament to old Hollywood and lost love sits between major and minor Woody.” –Ian Freer, Empire
“The fine cast includes Parker Posey, Blake Lively, and a rubicund Ken Stott as Bobby’s father, but it’s Stewart who takes the honors, allowing Vonnie’s shyness to shade into mystery.” –Anthony Lane, The New Yorker
“Jesse Eisenberg is suitably jittery as the director’s alter ego, but it’s Kristen Stewart who carries the movie.” –Wendy Ide, The Guardian
“‘Life is a comedy, says Bobby, ‘but it’s one written by a sadistic comedy writer.’ Allen should know.” –Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
